Brief Introduction
Tianmu Lake is located eight kilometers south of Liyang City 溧阳, Changzhou 常州. It is called “Tianmu Lake” because it is the extension of Tianmu Mountain 天目山脉. Tianmu Lake is a deep lake (reservoir) that is narrow from east to west and long from south to north. The water depth in the south is about 4-5m, and that in the north is about 10-14m.
Around Tianmu Lake, there are many historical and cultural sites: Wuyuan Mountain 伍员山 named after Wu Zixu 伍子胥, a Chu man in the Spring and Autumn Period 春秋, the Reading Platform of Cai Yong 蔡邕, a great scholar in the Eastern Han Dynasty 东汉, Taibai Tower 太白楼, The Baoen Temple 报恩禅寺, the former site of Longxing Temple 龙兴寺, a famous temple in the Tang Dynasty 唐代, and the “No.1 Stone Arch Dam in the World”.
Tianmu Lake area is rich in products, including green tea, oolong tea, pearl chestnut, fish head in a casserole, etc.
Tianmu Lake is known as the “Pearl of Jiangnan 江南明珠” and “Green Fairyland 绿色仙境”. Tianmu Lake has an ecological protection area of 300 square kilometers, with two large national reservoirs, Shahe 沙河, and Daxi 大溪. It is one of the first ecotourism demonstration areas in Jiangsu Province 江苏省.

History of Tianmu Lake
In 1957, water conservancy experts from Jiangsu Province visited Liyang and studied the local topography. It is found that there are continuous green mountains on both sides of the Shahe River 沙河. For example, in the lower reaches of the Shahe River, it is a good thing to block the water, use water to generate electricity, irrigate the fields, ensure income from drought and flood, and benefit the people. Therefore, the Shahe Reservoir 沙河水库 was built.
In 1992, in order to meet the needs of reform and opening up 改革开放, Shahe Reservoir was changed into Tianmu Lake.

Nanshan Bamboo Sea Tourist Area 南山竹海旅游区 is a scenic spot integrating resource utilization, ecological protection, and tourism.
