Cangzhou 沧州, a prefecture-level city in Hebei Province, is one of the economic open zones and coastal open cities determined by The State Council. It is also a petrochemical base and an important land and sea transportation hub in the north, and an important part of the Bohai Rim economic zone环渤海经济区 and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei metropolitan area 京津冀都市圈.
Cangzhou is located in the Heilongjiang Basin 黑龙港流域 in the southeast of Hebei Province and the east of Hebei Plain. It borders the Bohai Sea in the east, Tianjin and Langfang in the north, Baoding, and Hengshui in the west and southwest, and Binzhou and Dezhou in Shandong Province across the Zhangweixin River in the south. Cangzhou has two oil fields, Huabei and Dagang, with considerable development potential. Cangzhou is one of the four major salt production bases in China, with an area of 450,000 mu and an annual output of 2 million tons.
