Ⅰ. Brief Introduction to CNU
Capital Normal University (CNU) was founded in 1954, and its history can be traced back to Tongzhou Normal University established in 1905. CNU is a national “Double-First Class” university co-sponsored both by the Beijing Municipal Government and the Ministry of Education (MOE). CNU offers multiple disciplines including literature, science, engineering, management, law, education, foreign language and art etc. The university enrolls approximately 2,000 international students for long-term and short-term programs each year. CNU is located next to the West 3rd Ring Road of Beijing, with convenient transportation and first-class teachers. It has the best teaching facilities and international student dorm in Beijing. Capital Normal University is one of the earliest universities in China to carry out the education of international students. Now, CNU is entitled to Demonstration Base for International Students Education of Ministry of Education, Preparatory Education for International Students, Talent Training Base for “Belt and Road” Countries, HSK Testing Center and Beijing Chinese Language Education Base.

Ⅲ. Application Eligibility
1)Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens holding an ordinary foreign passport, in good physical and mental health.
2) For undergraduate applicants: If both or one parent is a Chinese citizen who has settled abroad, and the applicant was born with foreign nationality (without Chinese citizenship), the applicant must hold a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for at least four years and provide proof of actual residence in a foreign country for at least two years within the past four years (calculated up to Apr. 30th of the enrollment year; 9 months of residence in a year counts as one year, based on entry and exit stamps). Individuals from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan who have immigrated and obtained foreign nationality must also meet the above requirements when applying as international students. (For details, refer to the Notice by the Ministry of Education on Regulating International Student Admissions in Chinese Universities.)
3)Academic, Age, and Language Requirements (age calculated as of September 1, 2025):
Undergraduate Programs: High school graduate, age ≤40;
Master’s Programs: Bachelor’s degree holder (with graduation and degree certificates), age ≤40;
Doctoral Programs: Master’s degree holder (with graduation and degree certificates), age ≤45;
Chinese Language Training Programs: High school graduate, age ≤60;
Chinese Proficiency Requirements:
HSK Level 3 (≥210) for Chinese Language undergraduate programs;
HSK Level 4 (≥210) for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language undergraduate programs;
HSK Level 5 (≥210) for other undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs.
English-taught Programs (selected master’s/doctoral programs): IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 80 (valid language proficiency certificate required).
Scholarship applicants must also meet age, language, and documentation requirements specified in scholarship application guidelines.
4)Degree program applicants must submit a Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Transfer students already studying in China must provide a transfer certificate or completion certificate.
Ⅳ.Application Procedure
1) Log in CNU international student service system (https://cnu.17gz.org/) and register an account. Fill out the application information and upload the scanned copy of supporting documents according to requirements.
2) After passing the application check, applicants can pay the application fee online. Once the application fee is paid, it will not be refunded.
3) After passing the examinations and being admitted, applicants can apply for a student visa (X1 or X2) at the Chinese embassy or consulate with the Admission Notice and JW202/DQ form.

Ⅶ. Scholarships
1.Chinese Government Scholarship:Capital Normal University is a Chinese Government Scholarship university authorized by the Ministry of Education of China.
There are mainly two types of Chinese government scholarship programs that CNU can enroll:
(1)University Program of Capital Normal University
(2)Bilateral programs and special scholarship programs of CSC
2. International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship
3. Beijing Municipal Government Scholarship

Ⅷ. Visa
1. Admitted students should apply for a student visa at the Chinese Embassy or Consulate with the Electronic Admission Notice and the Confirmation Form for Study in China (JW201/202/DQ).
2. Those who will study for 6 months or above should apply for X1 visa, and need to change X1 visa into residence permit at the International Student Office within 30 days after arriving in China.
3. Students who will study in China within 6 months can apply for X2 visa.
Ⅸ. Insurance
According to the regulations of Ministry of Education of China, international students in China must purchase medical insurance in China. The university will not register for those who have not purchased medical insurance.
