01 What is the HSK?

The Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) 汉语水平考试Hànyǔ Shuǐpíng Kǎoshì, an international standardized test of Chinese language proficiency, assesses non-native Chinese speakers’ abilities in using the Chinese language in their daily, academic, and professional lives.
02 How many levels are there?
In April 2021, it was announced that the Chinese proficiency test will be divided into three levels and nine bands. The current exams for levels 1-6 remain unchanged in 2022. The advanced level, band 7-9, may be launched in March 2022, but it is not yet available.

03 HSK dates & details in 2022
More Details about HSK
HSK2, HSK4, HSK6 are in the morning from 9:00.
HSK1, HSK3, HSK5 are in the afternoon from 13:00.
As long as the total score reaches 180 points, you will pass the exam, regardless of the separate scores for listening, reading, or writing.
04 How to register HSK exam?
Go to the website: www.chinesetest.cn. This is the only official website for registration.

It is strongly recommended that you write down your receiving address when you sign up, so that you don’t need to go to the test center to get the certification.

05 Home-based HSK exam application
At present, it is possible to apply for the home-based exam within China.
If you are not residing in China, you can apply for the home-based exam in your current country.

07 Is the oral exam (HSKK) required?
HSK Speaking Test (HSKK) assesses the test takers’ oral Chinese abilities, and consists of three levels, HSKK (Primary level初级), HSKK (Intermediate level中级) and HSKK (Advanced level高级).
It’s about the change in exam structure. All levels starting from HSK 3 will now include a spoken test! This change will only affect some overseas HSK testing sites. Testing sites in China will not be affected yet. But the combination of oral and written tests is a trend in the future.
- Starting from January 2022, HSK5 and HSK6candidates must take the advanced level speaking test.
- Starting from March 2022, HSK4 candidates musttake the intermediate level speaking test, and HSK3 candidates must take the beginnerlevel speaking test.
- HSK written and speaking test result reports will be issued together.

08 How long is my HSK certification valid?
If you wish to apply for a university with HSK certification in China, usually the HSK diploma is only valid for application to the university for two years, starting from the day the test was taken.
However, your HSK certification is always a glorious proof of your Mandarin skills.
09 Other available Chinese tests
Youth Chinese Test (YCT)
The Youth Chinese Test (YCT) is an international standardized test of Chinese language proficiency for those 16 years old or younger to assess their abilities to use Chinese as a second language. It was launched by Hanban in an effort to encourage young foreign students to learn Chinese and improve their Chinese language proficiency.
YCT is divided into both a writing and speaking test, with the writing test consisting of levels 0 to 4, while the speaking test has two: Primary and Intermediate.

Business Chinese Test (BCT)
The Business Chinese Test (BCT) is an international, standardized test of Chinese language proficiency, and focuses on assessing non-native Chinese speakers’ abilities to use the Chinese language in real business or common working environments.
