About Hunan University of Technology

Hunan University of Technology (HUT), founded in 1958, is a key university in Hunan Province of central China. It is a comprehensive university with science and engineering at its core and packaging technology and education par excellence, offering degree programmes at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels across a wide range of subject areas.

A leading university in China in the field of packaging technology and education and an important base for fostering industrial talents, HUT is the first university in China to join the International Association of Packaging Research institutes (IAPRl), and has been functioning as the director of the China Packaging Education Committee since 2014. The university boasts 40 thousand students, including those from over 10 countries, making it one of the largest in central China.

It offers 3 doctoral programmes, 81 postgraduate programmes and 51 undergraduate programmes across 22 academic colleges covering subject areas of engineering, science, management, humanities, economics, law, education and arts, and has been rated ”Excellent” in teaching and learning by the Ministry of Education.

HUT is home to 2 national research centres in the fields of advanced packaging material research and development as well as packaging advertisement research; and home to over 50 provincial key laboratories and research centres in the fields of intelligent information cognition and processing, rail transport insulation technology, product design and innovation, and also home to a number of collaborative innovation centres, including the Rail Transit Automation Collaborative Innovation Centre, and the Energy-saving Building Materials Collaborative Innovation Centre.

In the past five years, HUT has undertaken over 200 national scientific research projects, received aggregate research funding of more than 1.5 billion RMB, and won five National Science and Technology Progress Awards and 73 provincial and ministerial Science and Technology Achievement Awards, with a 20% year-on-year increase in the rate of technology transfer.

HUT is located in Zhuzhou of Hunan province, a city at the cutting edge of engineering and manufacturing, an industrial powerhouse famously known as “the Engine Valley of China” and a world-class rail technology and innovation hub. As a major industrial and technological centre in the heart of China, the city enjoys excellent rail, motorway and flight access to places throughout China and across the world, with Changsha Huanghua International Airport only 37 kilometers away.

III. Applicant Eligibility

1. Non-Chinese citizens

2. Physically and mentally healthy

3. Education background and age:

(1) For a Bachelor’s degree: senior high school graduates, aged between 18-28 years old;

(2) For a Master’s degree: holding a bachelor’s degree, no more than 35 years old;

(3) For a PhD degree : holding a master’s degree, no more than 40 years old.

1. Online Application

Applicants can log in the Online Service System for International Students of HUT: http://hut.chiwest.cn and register an account and fill in online forms and submit the applications（The email address in the application form must be filled in correctly so as to ensure receipt of the JW202 form);

2. Photocopy of the highest academic degree certificate (or notarized Chinese/English translated document);

3. Transcript of the highest diploma, (or notarized Chinese/English translated document);

4. Photocopy of the first page of passport (Over one-year availability), and the page of the latest Chinese visa (If any);

5. Certificate of No Criminal Record issued after April 1st, 2025, (or notarized Chinese/English translated document);

6. Valid HSK Transcript for Chinese-taught programs and IELTS\TOEFL\Duolingo for English-taught programs or other documents to prove your linguistic competence.

7. Bank deposit certificate to prove an equivalent of CNY 40,000 or more in the account of the applicant;

8. Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Record (including the detailed list of laboratory blood test results). Applicants should strictly check the items in accordance with the requirements of Physical Examination Record. An incomplete form (including sheets with no photos, no signs or stamps of doctors and hospitals) is regarded as an invalid form. The physical examination form shall be issued after March 1st, 2025.

9. Study and Research Plan written with no less than 800 words in Chinese/English, Please clarify your research background, methods, content, significance, etc. ( For Postgraduate programmes);

10. Two different recommendation letters from professors/associate professors with detailed contacts.The signature date shall be after March 1st, 2025. (For Postgraduate programmes);

11. Applicants are required to upload a video of self-introduction within one minute, and those who have HSK certificates must use Chinese to introduce themselves. (Please introduce your educational and professional background, fully demonstrating your research capabilities and potential). The video must be in MP4 format with a capacity of less than 40MB. (For Postgraduate programmes).

Please upload the materials as high-resolution images or PDFs. If there is any fraud in the application materials, the application will be disqualified. In registration, all the original documents will be reviewed and the admission will be canceled if there is any fraud or inconsistency.

VI.Charge and Standards

–Tuition Fee:

Bachelor: CNY 10,000/year (Chinese-taught)

Bachelor: CNY 12,000/year (English-taught)

Master: CNY 13,000 / year (Chinese-taught)

Master: CNY 15,000 / year (English-taught)

Doctor: CNY 16,000 /year (Chinese-taught)

–Registration Fee: CNY 300

–Basic Textbooks: CNY 900/year

–Air conditioning fee: CNY 100/year

–Accommodation(on-campus): double room (electricity and water bills not included): CNY 3,000 /year; Four-person room: CNY 1,200/year.

–Insurance: CNY 800/year

–Visa/Residence permit: CNY 400-800/year

VII. Scholarships:

1. Freshman Scholarship: First-year tuition fee

2. Academic Scholarship: Students shall go through the procedures of the annual assessment, and those who meet the criteria are eligible for a scholarship in the following academic year.

VIII. Application and Admission Procedure

Step 1: Online Application

Log in the Online Service System for International Students of HUT: http://hut.chiwest.cn and register an account and fill in the application form and submit it.

Step 2: Initial Review

The International Office will have an initial review of the applicant’s identity, language ability, physical and mental conditions, etc.

Step 3: Academic Review

Relevant colleges will conduct an academic review for applicants to comprehensively examine their academic background and scientific research ability.

Step 4: Result Release

Based on the application and the review process, the final admission result will be released via admission email. (Application status will be informed in the HUT International Student Service System. Please check the Application System inbox and your email on time).

Notes:

(1) According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education of P. R. China, international students must purchase insurance while studying in China. Uninsured students cannot register.

(2) The time of registration shall be based on the Admission Notice. For students who fail to register within the time limit, enrollment will be disqualified.

(3) Students from all degree programmes shall participate in the scholarship annual review based on academic and daily performance during the previous academic year, and students are awarded scholarships at different tiers.
