Brief introduction of Dalian University of Technology
The university was founded in April 1949 as the Engineering College of Dalian University大连大学工学院.
In July 1950, the organizational system of Dalian University was abolished and the university was independent as the Dalian Institute of Technology大连工学院．
In October 1960, the Dalian Institute of Technology was identified as a national key university directly under the Ministry of education.
In March 1988, it was renamed Dalian University of Technology.
In 1996, “Project 211” was launched, and the Ministry of Education and Dalian city, Liaoning province jointly built the Dalian University of technology.
In 2001, “Project 985” was launched, and the Ministry of Education, Liaoning province, and Dalian city jointly built the Dalian University of Technology.
The Dalian University of Technology is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education. It is the key university of the national “Project 211” and “Project 985”. It is also a world-class university. The university has graduate schools, 20 independent academic departments and colleges on the main campus, 3 independent colleges in the Development Zone campus, 3 independent colleges in Panjin盘锦 campus, 3 specialized colleges, and 1 Independent college (City Academy). There are 29 first-class discipline doctoral programs, 137 second-class discipline doctoral programs, 42 first-class discipline master programs, 223 second-class discipline master programs, and 26 post-doctoral research mobile stations.
At present, there are 9 disciplines ranking among the top 1% in the world, and 4 disciplines including Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science and Computer Science ranking among the top 1000 in the world.

As of 2021, the Times Higher Education World University Rankings ranked the Dalian University of Technology 133rd in Asia and 23rd in China with its teaching and research performance.
