Brief introduction of Shandong University

Shandong University is a famous comprehensive university with a long history in China and one of the key colleges and universities directly under the Ministry of Education教育部.

The predecessor of Shandong University was the Shandong University Hall山东大学堂 founded in Jinan济南 in 1901 (the 27th year of Qing Guangxu清光绪二十七年).

In 1904, the school moved to the new site of Jinan Pole Stone Bridge济南杆石桥 and changed to Shandong Higher School山东高等学堂.

In 1926, the warlord Zhang Zongchang张宗昌 ordered the merger of six public specialized schools in Shandong to establish a provincial Shandong University省立山东大学 in Jinan济南.

In June 1929, the Preparatory Committee of National Shandong University国立山东大学筹备委员会 was ordered to change to the Preparatory Committee of National Qingdao University国立青岛大学筹备委员会, in addition to accepting the provincial Shandong University, and the private Qingdao University私立青岛大学 was used to prepare for the National Qingdao University国立青岛大学.

In 1932, the Executive Yuan行政院 decided to change the name of National Qingdao University to National Shandong University.

In August 1945, the Shandong Anti-Japanese People’s Government山东抗日人民政府 founded Shandong University in Linyi临沂, the capital of the liberated areas (in order to distinguish the national Shandong University, called Linyi Shandong University临沂山东大学).

In March 1951, Shandong University and East China University华东大学 merged and were still named Shandong University.

In July 2000, Shandong University, Shandong Medical University山东医科大学, and Shandong University of Technology山东工业大学 merged to form the new Shandong University.

The school covers a total area of more than 8,000 acres, forming a school pattern of one university and three campuses (Jinan济南, Weihai威海, Qingdao青岛), one of the most complete disciplines in China, representative of comprehensive universities, with 44 doctoral degree authorized first-level disciplines, 1 doctoral degree authorized second-level discipline, 51 master’s degree authorized first-level disciplines, 93 undergraduate enrollment majors, 42 postdoctoral research mobile stations, covering all disciplines except military science.

The school has an excellent platform for teaching and scientific research, has 2 first-class national key disciplines (covering eight secondary subjects), 2 national key disciplines, 70 provincial key disciplines, covering the arts, science, engineering, medicine four disciplines, realize the coordinated development of various disciplines.

There are 7 state-level scientific research platforms, including State Key Laboratories, National Engineering Technology Research Centers, National Engineering Laboratories, and National Engineering Technology Promotion Center, 6 national “111 Innovation Introduction Plan projects” 111创新引智计划项目, 6 national talent training bases, and 4 key research bases for humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education. There are 21 key laboratories and engineering technology research centers of the Ministry of Education and The Ministry of Health, as well as a large number of provincial key laboratories and engineering technology research centers.

According to the statistics of the Basic Science Index (ESI) in the United States, the scientific and technological competitiveness of Shandong University has entered the top 500 universities in the world, ranking 21st among Chinese mainland universities.

Peng Shige Class彭实戈班: It is a base for Financial Mathematics and Financial Engineering.

Experimental Law Class: Cultivate legal elite talents with a strong foundation, broad caliber, high quality, and strong ability, and reform the malpractice of traditional legal education emphasizing theory over practice.

University-level Biomedical Engineering Talent Training Base: The major is dedicated to human disease prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and health, and is committed to exploring life phenomena to provide a high level of scientific methods and engineering techniques.

University-level Industrial Ecology Talent Training Base: In cooperation with KTH Swedish Institute of Technology (KTH), the new international interdisciplinary major is introduced into the international theoretical system, using internationally accepted English textbooks, and part of the core courses are taught by KTH professors.
