Xiangtan University (XTU) is a comprehensive and national key university in China, which was founded in accordance with Chairman Mao Zedong’s initiative in 1958. XTU was selected in the Double First-Class University list and jointly supported by the People’s Government of Hunan Provinceand the Ministry of Education. It was also one of the few Chinese universities listed in THE, USNEWS and other famous world university rankings at the same time.
XTU has a graduate school, 24 colleges/teaching departments, offering 9 major disciplines: literature, history, philosophy, science, engineering, economics, management, law, and art. The Mathematical discipline is listed in the world’s First-Class Disciplines project. The disciplines of chemistry, materials science, engineering, mathematics computer science and environment\ecology are among the world’s top 1% according to the Essential Science Indicators (ESI). Eight disciplines are among the 2023 Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects. XTU has 1 global First-Class constructed discipline, 3 national key disciplines, 1 global First-Class training discipline, 13 key disciplines in the “14thFive-Year Plan”of Hunan Province, 16 first-level disciplines authorized to confer a doctor’s degree, 32 first-level disciplines authorized to confer a master’s degree, 19 professional master’s programs, 18 post-doctoral research centers; It also has 41 national level and 15 provincial level First-Class Undergraduate Programs, 11 national level and 23 provincial level Characteristic Majors, 1 national level and 8 provincial level Comprehensive Reform Pilot Majors, and 12 majors were accredited by the China Engineering Education Accreditation Association.
XTU adheres to the policy of open education, and is one of the selected universities in the international cooperation platforms of education, such as “The China-Africa ‘20+20’ Colleges Cooperation Program”, “100 Universities Cooperation Program of China-Africa Universities”, “China-Africa Consortium of Universities”, “Sino-Russian University Alliance of the Upper and Middle Reaches of Yangtze River and the Federal District along Volga River” and “The University Alliance of The Belt and Road (UAB&R)”, etc. It has established Confucius Institutes with Leon University, Spain and Makerere University, Uganda respectively. It is one of the first universities in Hunan Province to obtain the qualification of enrolling international students in China, and is the recipient institution of Chinese Government Scholarship and International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship, and has been granted the Higher General Education Accreditation for International Students in China (HGEAIS). It has established a wide range of exchange and cooperation relationships with more than 80 universities and research institutions in more than 20 countries and regions, such as USA, the UK and Japan, etc., and has carried out more than 30 international cooperation training programs.
I. Eligibility
1. Non-Chinese citizens, aged 18 (by September 1, 2025) or over, physically and mentally healthy, able to perform well in an academic program.
*Chinese citizens who apply to enter colleges and universities as foreign students after immigrating to foreign countries must hold a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for more than 4 years (inclusive) and a record of actual residence abroad for more than 2 years (9 months of actual residence abroad in a year can be regarded as one year, based on the entry and exit stamps) within the last 4 years (by April 30, 2025)
2. Adhere to Chinese laws and university regulations. Respect Chinese culture.
3. Applicants must be:
●Bachelor’s degree holders and below the age of 35 when applying for master’s degree programs.
●Master’s degree holders and below the age of 40 when applying for doctoral degree programs.
4. Language requirements:
HSK level 4 or above for Chinese-taught programs; IELTS 6.0 or above or TOEFL 80 or above for English-taught programs.
*The above language proficiency certificate can be waived in either of the following conditions: Chinese/English as a native or official language; with corresponding Chinese/English instruction in the academic education phase.
II. Content of Scholarship
The scholarship covers tuition fees, accommodations, insurance, and living stipends. Xiangtan University is an appointed university by the Ministry of Education to host Chinese Government Scholarship students. The scholarship is only for master’s degree and doctoral degree applicants.

III. Application Process
1. Log into the “Chinese Government Scholarship Information System” (https://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn/#/register) to fill in and submit information through the agency number “10530” of Xiangtan University (the scholarship is of type B in the CSC system). Then download the “Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form”.
2.Log into the International Students Service Platform of Xiangtan University (https://xtu.at0086.cn/StuApplication/Login.aspx) to register online and submit the application.
3.Deadline: March 1st, 2025
IV. Application Paperwork
1. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (in Chinese or English). Applicant by “China Scholarship Council Online Application System for Studying in China” (https://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn/#/register) to submit registration information can be downloaded.
2. Copy of Passport Home Page. If the validity of the applicant’s current passport does not meet the requirement (meaning the passport expires before September 2025), please apply for a new passport before submitting the application.
3. Notarized highest diploma. Prospective diploma winners must submit official proof of student status by their current school. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.
4. Academic transcripts(from the undergraduate program onwards). Copies of academic records from first to last semester during the undergraduate, graduate (if any), and doctoral programs (if any) shall be provided. These transcripts shall be issued and sealed by the attending university’s academic affairs office, graduate school, or student management department. They can be in Chinese or English, but must be attached with notarized English translations if they are in foreign languages other than English.
5. Language qualification certificates. Scanned copy of HSK scores (for Chinese-taught program applicants); Scanned copywith IELTS score of 6 or above or TOEFL score of 80 or above(for English-taught program). If English is the mother tongue or the official language, and the corresponding Chinese or English courses are taught in the educational stage, the above language proficiency certificate can be exempted.
6. A study plan proposal. A study plan written in Chinese or English shall contain more than 1,000 characters or words; the proposal of a doctoral student shall be signed by the applicant’s Chinese supervisor.
7. Recommendation letters. Two letters of recommendation (written only in Chinese or English) from professors or associate professors shall be submitted. These letters shall describe the applicant’s objectives of learning in China, comprehensive abilities, and evaluation of future growth.
8. A photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form completed in English (the original copy shall be kept by the applicant). The form is designed by the Chinese quarantine authority and can be obtained from the dispatching authority. The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take a physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months.
9. Non-criminal record report. The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of Non-Criminal Record issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application.

Reminder: Uploaded supporting documents must be clear, authentic and valid. Applicants are recommended to use a professional device to scan the relevant documents. Applicants shall bear the consequences caused by unclear or unidentifiable uploaded materials.
V. Admissions and Notifications
1. Applicants will be considered on the basis of their research ability, academic performance, language proficiency and video interviews.
2. The final admission result is subject to the result announced by the China Scholarship Council.
3. The accepted students can download the electronic version of the Admission Noticefrom “Chinese Government Scholarship Information System”or “International Students Service Platform of Xiangtan University”, and then log into the “Visa Assistant” section of Study in China website (https://www. studyinchina.edu.cn) to download the electronic photo of the Confirmation Form for Study in China (Form JW201).
4.The accepted students will apply for the study (X) visa in China at the Chinese Embassy (Consulate) with their passports, the Admission Notice, theConfirmation Form for Study in China (Form JW201), the Physical Examination Record for Foreigner, and the Blood Test Report Form, and come to the International Exchange Office of XTU to complete the enrollment procedures at the time specified in the Admission Notice with the above documents.
VI. Precautions
1.Applicants shall be responsible for the authenticity and completeness of their submitted documents. Any false or missing application documents will not be accepted.
2.All application documents shallbe completed in Chinese or English and uploaded to the “China Scholarship Council Online Application System for Studying in China”and the “International Students Service Platform of Xiangtan University”.
