South University of science and technology, located in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, is a national “Double First Class University Plan” construction university.
It is a national experimental school for comprehensive reform of higher education, a high-level university of science and Engineering in Guangdong Province, and a key construction University of high-level universities in Guangdong Province. It is a full-time public College of higher learning led and managed by Guangdong Province. It is an innovative university founded in Shenzhen.
It is the Shenzhen International Sister City University Alliance South University of science and technology, a member of Shenzhen University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Alliance, mainly focuses on science, engineering and medicine, and has a disciplinary system of business and characteristic humanities and social sciences.
In December, 2010, the Ministry of education agreed to prepare for the establishment of South University of science and technology. In April, 2012, the Ministry of education agreed to establish the South University of science and technology. In May, 2018, South University of science and technology was approved as a doctoral degree awarding unit.
According to the official website of the school in April 2021, the campus covers an area of 1943800 square meters, with a total planned construction area of more than 900000 square meters; At present, the university has set up eight colleges, including the College of science and the College of engineering, built 28 departments and several centers, and opened 34 undergraduate majors.
As of June 2022, South University of science and technology has signed 1338 teachers, including 58 academicians (40 full-time academicians signed for introduction and self-cultivation), 38 distinguished professors (including young people) of the Ministry of education, 14 experts of the “national special support plan”, 41 winners of the “National Natural Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars” and 25 winners of the “National Natural Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars”.

Founding President
Zhu Qingshi朱清时, founding president of South University of science and technology, devoted himself to planning and organizing the university to build a first-class university in the 21st century, and effectively promoted the reform and development of teaching, scientific research, management and logistics services.
During his employment as president of the University of Southern science and technology, he creatively launched the school running mode of “first try, independent enrollment, Self Award of degrees, and Self Award of diplomas”, becoming a person of great concern in China’s education reform.
At the same time, Zhu Qingshi is an internationally renowned chemical physicist who has made outstanding achievements in the international scientific frontiers such as molecular local mode vibration and single-molecule chemistry, which has promoted the basic research of physical chemistry in China to occupy a place in the world.
