Brief introduction
Located in Shanghai, Shanghai University is a comprehensive university affiliated with Shanghai. It is a national “double first-class” construction university and a national “Project 211” construction university.
The Ministry of education and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government jointly build colleges and universities. It has been selected into the national “Plan 111“, the education and training plan for outstanding engineers, the Zhuoyue journalism and communication talent education and training plan, the national high-level university public graduate program, and the Ministry of education’s overseas study demonstration base. The first batch of pilot high-level local universities in Shanghai and the first batch of demonstration universities in Shanghai to deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education.
In October 1922, the Kuomintang and the Communist Party cooperated to establish Shanghai University, which was forcibly closed by the Kuomintang authorities in 1927.
In 1983, the Shanghai Municipal People’s government established Shanghai University on the basis of the Fudan University Branch, Shanghai Foreign Studies University Branch, East China Normal University Instrument and electronics branch, Shanghai University of science and technology branch, Shanghai Institute of machinery Light Industry Branch, and Shanghai Academy of fine arts.
In May 1994, the new Shanghai University was formed by the merger of Shanghai University of Technology (founded in 1960), Shanghai University of Science and Technology (founded in 1958), the former Shanghai University (founded in 1983), and Shanghai College of Science and Technology (founded in 1959).
