Applicant Eligibility
(1)Non-Chinese citizen in goodhealth, holding personal passport.
(2)Age and education background:
For master program, applicant should obtain a bachelor degree or above and be no more than 30 years old.
For doctoral program, applicant should obtain a master degree or above and be no more than 35 years old.
(3)Outstanding in academic performance (GPA above 3.0).
Additionally, Ph.D applicants need to have research experience and achievements and published at least 1scientific paper.
(4)Students outside China should be able to have online communication facilities, such as laptop, stable internet connection, etc. to carry out the interview and necessary communication for application.
(5)Abide by local laws, university rules and regulations.
(6)Agree to study according to graduation (HSK-3 certificate and publish SCI papers) requirements.

Application Procedure
Brief introduction
Applicants shall apply both at SHOU (https://www.gjxssqxt.cn) and at CSC (https://www.campuschina.org/) .
After selection process, SHOU willshortlist the candidates, give the candidate with the Pre-Admission Letter and recommend the selected candidates to CSC council.
The CSC council will review the application materials and issue the final scholarship result.

Register at https://www.gjxssqxt.cn complete the application form and submit all required application documents. *CSC scholarship applicants should also register and submit the application form on specific scholarship websites above respectively.
For master and doctoral program application, please check the supervisor list first to contact the interested supervisor and get her/his preliminary consent.Then, please discuss with and your SHOU supervisor about your research plan to finish the research proposal and finally invite your SHOU supervisor to sign for your research proposal.

Pay application fee of RMB 400 online or by transfer.
The application fee is non-refundable if paid.

Participate in the interview.
After receiving the interview notice, please attend the interview on time. The specific interview time is subject to the email notification. Please ensure that the email address is correct. Applicants who fail to participate on time without notice will be regarded as automatic with drawal.
STEP 4
Track the application status online.
Please pay attention to your email or login to your SHOU application account online to check your application status.
STEP 5
Now – March 15th
Applicants who pass the university review will receive the Pre- admission Letter via the university’s official email. Check the admission results. The results will be issued at https://www.gjxssqxt.cn and you can check it via your application portal.
STEP 6
March 15th – March 30th
Institution’s Recommendation.
Shanghai Ocean University will select, publicize and recommend high-level postgraduate scholarship candidates to the China Scholarship Council (CSC).
STEP 7
April- June
CSC’s expert Review.
CSC organizes experts to review the candidates’ academic performance, comprehensive capacities, and development potential, etc.
STEP 8
July – August
Merit-based Admission.
Shanghai Ocean University will announce to the candidates the final admission results decided by CSC.
STEP 9
End of August – Beginning of September
Freshmen Enrollment. Scholarship recipients apply for a student visa and come to Shanghai Ocean university to complete the registration procedures for freshmen enrollment within the time specified by the university.
Admitted students must register at the designated date and bring the original graduation diploma, transcripts, non-criminal record, physical examination record to be checked when registering at SHOU.
Your enrollment will be canceled if you cannot provide the required original copy of relevant certificates.

Passport photocopy
A clearly visible copy of your valid passport should be provided. The following information on the passport needs to be clearly visible: name, photo, birth date, place of birth, date of issue, and date of expiry.

Degree certificate and transcripts
of previous education
For master program:
Please provide bachelor degree diploma and all year’s transcripts.
For doctoral program:
Please provide bachelor degree diploma, master degree diploma, and all years’ transcripts. The photocopies of the original certificate should have the university’s official stamp and/or the signature of the president. If the original ones are not in Chinese or English, they must be translated in Chinese or English and notarized by authorized institution.
Graduating students should provide the photocopies of pending graduation certificate and up-to-date transcriptsfor applying for degree programs. However, official graduation diploma and transcripts of all years must be submitted promptly after receiving them. Original certificates must be provided on registration day.

Language Proficiency Certificate
Applying for English-taught degree programs
Please provide certificate of IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL IBT 80 or above received within the last 2 years.
Applicants who do not have the above English certificates need to submit the same level of materials to prove your English level.
Applicants whose native language is English do not need to provide English language certificate.
Applying for Chinese-taught Degree programs
Please provide HSK Certificate received within the last 2 years.
Master and doctoral program requirements: HSK 5 with a score above 180. Applicants with HSK-4 certificate should apply for Chinese language courses to study before applying forMaster program or Doctoral program.

Self-Introduction Video
(MP4 Format, less than 40M)
Please provide a 3-minute self-introduction video.
The language of the video content should be consistent with the teaching language of the major you are applying for. If you apply for an English-taught program, please submit a self-introduction video in English. If you apply for a Chinese-taught program, please submit a self-introduction video in Chinese.
Self-introduction video may include previous academic background, reasons for choosing to study in Shanghai Ocean University, plans after graduation, interests and hobbies, etc.

Research Proposal
Applicants are required to write the research proposal after discussion with the potential supervisor at SHOU.
SHOU supervisor’s signature is needed on the research proposal for application submission.
The research proposal should be written in English or Chinese, including Research Objectives, Methodology, Research Achievements thus far (e.g. title and abstracts of graduation thesis or published paper, list of projects), Understanding of China, Reasons for choosing SHOU, Study Objectives, Academic Goals, Future Research and Career Plan during the program.The research proposal example can be downloaded at:

Resume
Written in English or Chinese, including:

·Your work or intern experience.
·Your research achievements so far.
·Other information that might be useful.

Two Recommendation Letters
Written in English or Chinese by 2 different scholars who hold the title of associate professor or higher in the related academic research field. One recommendation from two letters should be issued by applicant’s previous supervisor. The issue date of the recommendation letter should be later than September 1st, 2024. Recommendation letter should include the title, place of work, contact phone number, email address and written signature.

Foreigner Physical
Examination certificate
(Valid in 6 months)
Applicants should strictly follow the requirements of the Physical Examination Record For Foreigner and provide a detailed report of blood examination.
Incomplete records, those without the signature of the doctor, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid.

Non-Criminal Record
Applicants are required to provide the notarized English or Chinese translated versions if originals are not written in English or Chinese.

Statement of Financial Support
The statement can be Bank Deposit Statement or Financial Statement.
It should be completed by the applicant and his/her sponsor to prove the applicant have enough financial resources to study in China.
