    Ti Gong The Shanghai Youth Artificial Intelligence Academy is unveiled. An artificial intelligence academy for youth was unveiled at the China Welfare Institute Children's Palace on Wednesday. Li Bin, president of CWI, joined several children to launch the new Shanghai Youth Artificial Intelligence Academy. The children's palace, the most famous off-campus art and science training center for children in Shanghai, was the earliest institution in China to teach children how to use a computer. It was also where, 40 years ago, Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping made the visionary call on early computer education. After watching students operate computers he said, "Computer education should start with children." Since then, the Ministry of Education started computer education in primary schools. Twenty residents of Putuo were invited to visit the district's flagship Suzhou Creek service center and meet with officials from key government bodies on Wednesday, during a government open day. Putuo has been selected as a demonstration district in Shanghai to open its offices to the public since 2017. The government invites visitors to the government buildings and departments every August. The 2024 "Government Open Month" of Putuo was launched at the "Changfeng Bay Half Marathon Suzhou Creek Community Service Station." The five-day event has attracted 58 teams and nearly 450 athletes from 14 countries and regions, including China, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Malaysia. It's the first time that an intercontinental-level youth karate event has been held in China. About 25,000 students of the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics have asked questions about rural China as they visited 12,000 villages across the country in the "Thousand Villages Survey" during the past 16 years.     Shanghai remained a containers port giant last year after ranking third among the world's shipping hubs in the latest Xinhua-Baltic International Shipping Centre Development Index Report. The index, released on Wednesday at the North Bund Shipping Service High Quality Development Conference, shows the city maintaining its ranking for five consecutive years, following Singapore and London. According to the report, Shanghai ports showed remarkable resilience and adaptability amid global economic uncertainties and fluctuating trade volumes. In 2023, the city handled a total of 49.16 million TEU (20-foot equivalent units), an increase of 1.7 million TEU or 3.6 percent compared with 2022 levels, according to the report. It has maintained its position as the largest and busiest container port in the world for the 14th year in a row, as well as being named the world's most connected port by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development's (UNCTAD) Port Liner Shipping Connectivity Index (PLSCI).     China’s inbound tourism is witnessing a significant rebound, with over 17 million foreign visitors entering the country in the first seven months of 2024. The figure marks a sharp increase of 129.9% compared to the same period last year, according to the latest data from the National Immigration Administration. This surge in foreign arrivals is expected to inject more than RMB100 billion into China’s economy. Between January and July, a total of 17.25 million foreign nationals crossed into China, driven by eased travel restrictions and renewed global interest in China as a travel destination. The number of visas issued at border checkpoints also saw a substantial rise, with 846,000 visas granted during this period, an increase of 182.9% year-on-year. The influx of foreign tourists has had a remarkable impact on China's tourism industry.
