Brief introduction of Huazhong Agricultural University
Located in Wuhan, Hubei Province, Huazhong Agricultural University is a national key university with the characteristics of life science and the coordinated development of agriculture, science, engineering, culture, law, economy, and management directly under the Ministry of education of the people’s Republic of China.
The national “double first-class” construction colleges and universities, the national “Project 211” and the “985 Project advantageous discipline innovation platform” key construction colleges and universities, have been selected into the discipline innovation and talent introduction plan of colleges and universities, the education and training plan for outstanding engineers, and the National Model University for deepening the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education and are members of the Joint School of seven universities in Wuhan.
The source of the school can be traced back to the Hubei agricultural school founded by the governor of Hunan and Guangzhou, Zhang Zhidong, during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty in 1898. It is one of the starting points of higher agricultural education in China. After inheritance and evolution, it was established by the Agricultural College of Wuhan University, all departments of Hubei Agricultural College, and some departments of the Agricultural College of the former Zhongshan University in 1952, and renamed central China Agricultural University in 1985.
In 2000, it was transferred by the Ministry of agriculture to the leadership directly under the Ministry of education.
There are 17 colleges (departments) and 62 undergraduate majors; There are 28 first-class discipline master programs, 16 professional degree master programs, 16 first-class discipline doctoral programs, 2 professional degree doctoral programs, and 15 post-doctoral research mobile stations.

In December 2017, in the results of the fourth round of national discipline evaluation, 7 disciplines of the university entered class disciplines and 5 disciplines were B+.
Among them, horticulture, animal husbandry, and veterinary science are A+, biology is a, and food science and engineering, crop science, agricultural and forestry economic management are A-;
Landscape architecture, agricultural resources and environment, plant protection, fisheries, public management, and other five disciplines are B+. The comprehensive comparison of class disciplines ranks 19th among colleges and universities in China.
Famous Alumni
In the past century, Huazhong Agricultural University has had a large number of outstanding alumni, including Deng Zixin邓子新, microbiologist, Professor, doctoral supervisor, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (2005), honorary Dean of the school of life science and technology of Shanghai Jiaotong University, and chairman of the International Committee on industrial microbial genetics.
Deng Zixin has made systematic and important research achievements in the molecular biology of Streptomyces plasmids and bacteriophages, DNA replication regulation, restriction and modification systems, microbial metabolic pathways, metabolic engineering, and the innovation of biological agricultural (medical) drugs.
In particular, the sulfur modification was found on the DNA of many bacteria for the first time, which was the first physiological modification found on the DNA skeleton, opening up a new scientific field of DNA sulfur modification.
Chen Wenxin陈文新, a taxonomist of soil microorganisms and bacteria, is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He was once a professor and doctoral supervisor of the school of biology, at China Agricultural University.
The “China Agricultural University rhizobia research center” founded by academician Chen Wenxin has become a pioneer in modern rhizobial taxonomy in China, leading China’s rhizobial taxonomy research into the world’s advanced ranks.
Chen Wenxin has made important contributions to the development of the modern rhizobial classification system. She traveled all over the green mountains to collect rhizobia and studied rhizobia microorganisms to make contributions to mankind in the motherland.
There are also several academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chen Huagui陈华癸 and Shan Yang单杨, who have made great contributions to China’s agricultural development.
