Brief Introduction
Yibin is known as “the first city of the Yangtze River, the city of Baijiu and the bamboo capital of China”. It is located at the junction of Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan provinces, and at the intersection of Jinsha River, Minjiang River and Yangtze River. Yibin has a profound cultural heritage, with a history of 2200 years of city building, 4000 years of Baijiu making and 3000 years of tea planting. It is a national historical and cultural city.
01 TRAVEL TO YIBIN
There are three recommended places to travel in Yibin: Bamboo Sea(蜀南竹海 Shǔ Nán Zhú Hǎi), Xingwen Stone Sea(兴文石海 Xīng Wén Shí Hǎi) and Lizhuang Ancient Town(李庄古镇 Lǐ Zhuāng Gǔ Zhèn).
Bamboo Sea is the largest natural bamboo forest scenic spot in the world. It is a rare tourist destination in the world and the only one in China that integrates bamboo scenery, mountains and rivers, lakes, waterfalls and ancient temples, and also has a long history of cultural landscape.
You may spend a whole day here, so it is suggested to choose a hotel in the bamboo sea, which is more convenient for food, accommodation and transportation.
If you want to experience “a day on an alien planet”, you must go to Xingwen Stone Sea. It is located in the transitional zone between Sichuan Basin and Yunnan Guizhou Plateau, with a total area of about 156 square kilometers. It is a World Geopark and a national scenic spot. Its geological relics mainly include: Permian geological profile, surface karst terrain, sinkholes, karst caves, cave deposits, waterfalls, dissolution valleys, paleontological fossils, tempestite deposits, etc. Among them, the most famous is sinkhole, which is the earliest place to discover and study sinkholes in China.

Lizhuang Ancient Town is place with cultural and historical relics. It is also a town that tells about the situation and vicissitudes of the Anti Japanese war, reflects Chinese traditional culture and cultivates the Chinese national spirit. Lizhuang ancient town, known as “the first town along the Yangtze River”, has a history of 1460 years. It is a millennium old town along the Yangtze River.
02 FOOD&DRINKS IN YIBIN
The pictures above are some of the famous food in Yinbin, which are 宜宾燃面(yí bīn rán miàn), 凉糕(liáng gāo), 烧烤(shāo kǎo), 李庄白肉(lǐ zhuāng bǎi ròu).
Another feature about Yinbin is that it’s a city of Baijiu. When you walk on the street, you will definitely smell the Baijiu. The brand is called 五粮液(wǔ liáng yè), which is one of the most famous brand in China.
03 MOVIES FILMED IN YIBIN
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon(《卧虎藏龙》Wò Hǔ Cáng Lóng) is the first film in Chinese film history to win the best foreign language film of Oscar.
The Water Murmurs(《海边升起一座悬崖》Hǎi Bian Shēng Qǐ Yí Zuò Xuán Yá), in May, 2022, the film won the Short Film Golden Palm Award of the 75th Cannes International Film Festival.
