Brief introduction of China Agricultural University
As a university directly under the Ministry of education, China Agricultural University is the origin of modern agricultural higher education in China. Its history begins with the Agricultural University of Beijing Normal University京师大学堂农科大学, which was established in 1905.
In September 1949, the College of Agriculture of Peking University, the College of Agriculture of Tsinghua University, and the College of Agriculture of North China University merged into Beijing Agricultural University.
In October 1952, the Department of Agricultural Machinery of Beijing Agricultural University merged with the Mechanized Agricultural College of the Central Ministry of Agriculture, the North China Agricultural Machinery College, and the Agricultural College of Pingyuan平原 to form the Beijing Agricultural Mechanization College.
In October 1985, it was renamed Beijing Agricultural Engineering University.
In September 1995, Beijing Agricultural University and Beijing Agricultural Engineering University merged to establish China Agricultural University.
Over the past century, China Agricultural University has developed into a research university with the characteristics and advantages of agronomy, life science, agricultural engineering, and food science, and formed a disciplined group with distinctive characteristics and complementary advantages, such as agriculture and life science, resources and environmental science, information and computer science, agricultural engineering and automation science, economic management and social science.
Education Achivements and Rankings
The school has a total of 18 colleges, 1 entity teaching unit, and 1 directly subordinate department, involving 7 university disciplines such as agriculture, engineering, science, economics, management, law, and literature. There are undergraduate colleges, graduate schools, continuing education colleges, and physical education and art teaching departments.
In the fourth round of first-level discipline level evaluation, 6 first-level disciplines were rated A+, and the number of disciplines rated A+ ranked sixth among national universities. The school has 3 national key laboratories, 1 national engineering laboratory, 3 national centers, 3 national field science observation and research stations, 99 provincial and ministerial key laboratories, and 9 provincial and ministerial field science observation and research stations.
The university vigorously promotes professional certification, takes the lead in formulating agricultural and forestry professional certification standards for ordinary colleges and universities, and becomes the developer of agricultural professional certification standards. Agronomy took the lead in passing the national agricultural specialty certification. The two majors of plant protection and horticulture took the lead in passing the Sino-Russian joint certification. Agricultural water conservancy engineering, water conservancy, hydropower engineering, vehicle engineering, electrical engineering and automation, computer science and engineering, food science, and engineering have passed the professional certification of engineering education.
As of 2021, the Times Higher Education World University Rankings ranked China Agricultural University 28th in China with its teaching and research performance.

The research of China Agricultural University in the fields of biological breeding, healthy breeding, veterinary public health safety, agricultural green development, agricultural engineering, food manufacturing, China’s agricultural and rural development, and global food safety is at the leading level at home and abroad.
Olympic Stadium
Located in the center of the east campus, the gymnasium of China Agricultural University was completed and put into use in June 2007. The gymnasium covers an area of 13900 kilometers, with a total construction area of 23950 kilometers and 8600 designed seats. It is a wrestling venue for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and a sitting volleyball venue for the Beijing Paralympic Games. It is one of the six university Olympic venues. It has produced 18 gold medals during the Olympic Games, second only to the Bird’s Nest and the Water Cube. During the Paralympic Games, two more Paralympic gold medals were born.
The gymnasium offers badminton, table tennis, basketball, and other conventional fitness programs. It can meet the needs of a variety of large-scale international and domestic sports events and public welfare literary and artistic performances. It has undertaken the “Good Luck Beijing • 2007 World Youth Wrestling Championship” and the “2010 Beijing First World Martial Arts Games (SUMO, aikido, wrestling, Sangbo)” domestic and foreign large-scale events and many literary and artistic performances, and has hosted the CCTV farmers’ Spring Festival gala for five consecutive years.
