Brief introduction of Beijing Jiaotong University
Beijing Jiaotong University, located in Beijing, is a national key university directly under the Ministry of education of the people’s Republic of China, and jointly built by the Ministry of education, the Ministry of transport, the Beijing Municipal People’s government, and China National Railway Corporation.
It is a national “double first-class” construction university, “Project 211” construction university, and has been selected into the “985 Project advantageous discipline innovation platform”, the innovation ability improvement plan of colleges and universities, “Plan 111” Excellent engineer education and training program.
The school is one of the three sources of Jiaotong University. Its historical origin can be traced back to 1896. Its predecessor was the Beijing Railway Management Institute founded by the Qing government; In 1917, it was reorganized into a railway management school and post and Telecommunications School; In 1921, it merged with Shanghai Industrial school and Tangshan Industrial school to form Jiaotong University.
After the reorganization of Jiaotong University in 1923, the University was renamed Beijing Jiaotong University; In 1950, the school was named Northern Jiaotong University; In 1952, Northern Jiaotong University was abolished and renamed Beijing Railway Institute.
In 1970, he was renamed Northern Jiaotong University; Merged with Beijing Electric Power College in 2000; In 2003, he was renamed Beijing Jiaotong University.

According to the official website of the University in January 2021, the university has the school of electronic information engineering, the school of computer and information technology, the school of economic management, the school of transportation, the school of civil engineering, the school of mechanical and electronic control engineering,
the school of electrical engineering, the school of science, the school of language and communication, the school of software, the school of Marxism, the school of architecture and art, the school of law, the school of Zhan Tianyou, the school of national security Weihai International College and other 16 colleges, and has a graduate school and a college of distance and continuing education, with 62 undergraduate majors.
In February 2022, the school added the major of Intelligent Transportation Engineering.
On March 3, 2022, the school established new colleges: the School of mathematics and statistics, and the School of physical science and engineering.
As of 2021, the Times Higher Education World University Rankings ranked Beijing Jiaotong University 1001th-1200th in the world and 40th in China & the Asia-Pacific.
The U.S. News & World Report ranked Beijing Jiaotong University 596th in the world.

The school’s transportation engineering discipline has been ranked first in the world-class disciplines of soft science for three consecutive years, 15 disciplines have been shortlisted in the world-class disciplines of soft science, 10 disciplines have been shortlisted in the U.S.News world university disciplines, 7 disciplines have entered the QS World Top disciplines, 5 disciplines have been shortlisted in the world university disciplines, engineering has maintained the top 1 ‰ of ESI, and 5 disciplines have entered the top 1% of ESI.

Famous Alumni
In the past century, Beijing Jiaotong University has had a large number of outstanding alumni, including Zheng Zhenduo郑振铎, an outstanding patriot and social activist, writer, poet, scholar, literary critic, literary historian, translator, and art historian in modern China.
He is also a famous collector and exegetist. He adhered to the revolutionary realistic literary theory all his life, emphasized the function of literature in social reform, and advocated that literature serve the people. In terms of literary research, in the early 1920s, he advocated and engaged in the comprehensive comparative study of Chinese and foreign ancient and modern literature, put forward and began to sort out and study the history of Chinese literature with new ideas and methods, especially the data collection and research of folk literature, novels, and operas, and made a lot of pioneering work.
Yang Rumei杨汝梅, an accounting theorist and accounting educator, is one of the earliest four accountants in China, the pioneer of intangible assets theory research, and the first Chinese accountant listed in the world who’s who. Her representative works are intangible assets.
Jin S hixuan金士宣, a famous railway transportation expert, railway transportation educator, the initiator and founder of China’s railway transportation discipline, and the author of China’s first railway transportation monograph has built a complete system of China’s transportation management discipline. He once served as vice president of Northern Jiaotong University and honorary president of Jiaotong University Alumni Association. In memory of Jin Shixuan, Beijing Jiaotong University has held the “Jin Shixuan” cup innovation ability competition since 2001.
