Brief introduction of Central China Normal University
Central China Normal University is a key comprehensive normal university directly under the Ministry of education of the people’s Republic of China, a key construction university of the national “Project 211211工程” and “985 Project advantageous discipline innovation platform”, a national “Double First Class University Plan双一流大学” construction university, selected into the national “2011 plan”, “111 plan”, the founding University of the China-Japan humanities exchange University Alliance, a member of the Joint School of seven universities in Wuhan, and a national pilot University of free education for normal students.
Central China Normal University was founded in 1951 on the basis of the University Department of Wenhua academy founded in 1903 (which was founded by the American Episcopal Church in 1871 and renamed central China University in 1924), Zhonghua university founded in 1912, and the school of education of Zhongyuan University founded in 1949.
It was restructured into central China Higher Normal School in 1952.
It was named central China Normal University in 1953 and renamed Central China Normal University in 1985. Comrade Deng Xiaoping邓小平 personally inscribed the name of the University.
As of December 2020, Central China Normal University has 28 teaching and scientific research institutions, 79 undergraduate majors for national enrollment, and a higher education system from undergraduate to master’s, doctoral and post-doctoral, from full-time to adult education.

As of June 2018, the university has 8 national key disciplines, 1 national key (cultivation) discipline, 22 first-class key disciplines in Hubei Province, 15 majors such as Chinese language, literature, and physics, and has set up post-doctoral mobile stations, with 21 first-class disciplines authorized by doctoral degrees, 33 first-class disciplines authorized by master’s degrees, 128 disciplines authorized by doctoral degrees, and 173 disciplines authorized by master’s degrees.
As of 2021, the Times Higher Education World University Rankings ranked Central China Normal University 46th in China & the Asia-Pacific.
The U.S. News & World Report ranked Central China Normal University 484th in the world.
Central China Normal University has established close academic ties with more than 100 universities and scientific research institutions in more than 70 countries and regions, such as the United States, Russia, Canada, France, Britain, Australia, Japan, South Korea, etc., and a large number of foreign experts and teachers teach at school.
The number of teachers who go abroad for research, participate in international conferences and carry out cooperative scientific research continues to rise. It has built four Confucius Institutes孔子学院 with foreign universities, actively selected Chinese teachers and volunteers to carry out Chinese teaching abroad, and spread the Chinese language and culture.

Famous Alumni
In the past century, Central China Normal University has had a large number of outstanding alumni, including Chen Tanqiu陈潭秋, a Proletarian Revolutionist无产阶级革命家, who is a delegate to the First Congress of the Communist Party of China中国共产党第一次代表大会 and one of the founders of the Communist Party of China.
On September 14th, 2009, he was rated as one of the 100 heroes and models who made outstanding contributions to the founding of new China.
The representatives attending the “First National Congress” of the Communist Party of China are all intellectuals from schools. Among them, although there have been military commanders like Mao Zedong, only one person has fought with a gun with the courage of a soldier and was wounded on the firing line, is, Chen Tanqiu, a representative from Wuhan. The reporter, who was physically fit on the field at the beginning, had an iron will and finally died heroically at the foot of Tian Shan天山.
