BEIJING, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- From simply meeting basic food needs to today's pursuit of healthy and savory eating, the diet of Chinese people has undergone a dramatic transformation since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949. Over the past 75 years, the dining tables have witnessed China's economic development and social progress. In the early years after the country was founded, the foods on the dining tables were primarily grain-based, to ensure everyone had enough to eat. (Xinhua) With the improvement of agricultural productivity, people's dietary structure began to shift from a grain-dominated "staple food diet" to a nutritional one that included more meat, eggs, and dairy products. Trends in Chinese clothing over past decades
BEIJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- China's national news agency, Xinhua, on Thursday opened a photo exhibition documenting the historic transformation of the country over the past decades. The exhibition opened at the National Financial Information Center in Beijing just days before Oct. 1, when the People's Republic of China marks its 75th founding anniversary. On display are nearly 500 photographs spanning various historical periods, selected from Xinhua's collection of over 10 million images, the largest photo archive in the country. From "keeping warm" to "looking good" and "being fashionable", clothing trends in China indicate the rising living standards for Chinese people.
