There’s great news for travelers arriving in Shanghai by high-speed train – because if you need to use the metro or buses to explore the city, you can now access an all-in-one travel QR code directly from the 12306 platform, China’s official train ticket booking app.
A close look at the 12306 app
The QR code allows seamless access to nearly all modes of public transportation in Shanghai, according to the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Transport.
These include the metro, buses, the Shanghai Suburban Railway Airport Link Line, maglev train and ferries.
The only exception is the Jinshan Rail Line, which connects Jinshan district to the city center.
By integrating this service into the 12306 platform, travelers can enjoy a smooth transition from high-speed trains to local public transport – without switching between different apps or platforms.
The QR code provided on 12306 is actually the Suishenma Code (Shanghai City Transport Code), issued by Suishenxing (SH MaaS), Shanghai’s official public transport platform.

With the code saved on your smartphone, passengers only need to scan it at the designated machines when boarding public transport in Shanghai — with no physical cards required.
Payments for your rides are automatically deducted from the method you select during the application process, with charges finalized two hours after you use the code.
