The Guangzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau posted a review of several measures aiming at impoving and streamline handling and processing of work permits for foreigners in China.
In total, seven major changes on foreigner’s work permit were put in action starting March 15 this year.
-Applying for Work Permit Online Made Accessible to All
Work permits can now be submitted, processed and approved online. What’s more, applicants no longer need to show up onsite for application and there’s no longer a need to submit any type of physical documents (papers).
After getting an approval, category A talents can go to pick up their permit without submitting any paperwork. While those in category B and C will need to submit some original documents, and after verification they will be able to retrieve the card.
-Mutual Recognition of Work Permits Between Cities
Foreigners who have obtained work permits from other mainland cities in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) do not need to submit work qualification certificates (except for those applying for a different position or occupation) and the highest academic degree certificate when applying for work permits in Guangzhou.
-Directly Applying for Work Permits Without Leaving China
Before this review, only a select few individuals could apply for a work permit directly without leaving China. Now all individuals with a valid visa in China can apply for a work permit without leaving the country.
-Relaxing Age and Work Experience Restrictions
Maximum age requirement has been extended to 65 years old.
A two-year work experience requirement has also been exempted for urgently needed young talents.
Those who meet the requirements will be granted a 2-year work permit.
The same applies to high-skilled talents.
-Sci-Tech Talents Allowed to Take Part-Time Jobs
Science and Technology talents can participate in part-time jobs after obtaining permission from their employer and filing with the Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology.
-Further Expand the Scope of Application of Foreign High-end Talents Recognition
Foreign Sci-Tech talents, who participate in national, provincial and municipal science and technology projects and have doctoral degrees in key disciplines such as science, industry, agriculture and medicine, can apply for a foreign talent visa (R) with a maximum validity of 10 years after recognition.
