US electric car giant Tesla set a new single-month sales record in China in November, selling over 73,000 vehicles, supported by local subsidies and promotional policies.

The company’s gigafactory in Shanghai produced 79,000 vehicles in November alone, representing month-on-month growth of 15 percent.

Local governments across China have doubled subsidies for new energy vehicle purchases to 20,000 yuan ($2,754), encouraging car replacements and new purchases.

In Shanghai, buyers in the Pudong New Area can receive an additional 3,000-yuan subsidy. Of the 30,000 offers available, over 18,000 have already been claimed.

What’s more, Tesla has further boosted sales with a 10,000 yuan discount on select Model Y variants for purchases completed before Dec 31 and it has extended its zero-interest, five-year loan program, launched on July 1, to the year’s end.
