Shanghai’s Pudong New Area recently established the Lujiazui Finance Salon, a high-end platform for exchanges and cooperation within the finance sector. It is set to complement the Lujiazui Forum and enhance the city’s leading position in the industry.
Pudong New Area houses over 3,800 domestic and international financial institutions, making it the international financial center of Shanghai. The district also undertook hundreds of financial projects during a series of reforms, laying the groundwork for the industry to upgrade and innovate.
The newly established salon is set to host 40 seminars this year, focusing on banking and insurance, securities and futures, venture capital, and listed companies, according to Tan Peng, an official from the Pudong finance bureau. The salon will bring together regulatory agencies, financial institutions, technology companies, and more for high-level and in-depth dialogue.
In the future, the salon will establish a regular communication platform that complements the Lujiazui Forum, Tan added. Launched in 2008, the Lujiazui Forum has become a global platform for government officials, world financial leaders and outstanding scholars to discuss and foster international financial cooperation and further China’s financial reforms and market opening.
The salon, with a focus on institutionalized, scenario-based and internationalized operations, is set to contribute insights from Pudong New Area to financial reforms and empower the district’s high-quality economic development.
Tu Hong, president of the Shanghai Branch of Bank of Communications, said he hopes the salon will serve as a platform for discussions on cross-border and offshore finance, which play a key role in Shanghai’s vision to become an international financial center.
