The 2025 Shanghai Sailing Open is scheduled to take place from March 25 to 30 in Shanghai, attracting 300 skilled sailors from across the globe to showcase their sailing prowess against the picturesque backdrop of the city, announced the event organizer during a news conference on Feb 25.
The festivities will kick off on March 25 along the Huangpu River with a grand opening ceremony and a sailing parade featuring guest sailing teams.
Following the parade, all participating teams will engage in technical meetings and practice sessions on March 27 at Dishui Lake in the Lin-gang Special Area to fine-tune their skills before the commencement of the competition on March 28. The event will culminate with the final races on March 30.
The 2025 Shanghai Sailing Open will see competitors vying for victory across three distinct classes: J80, ILCA6, and ILCA7.
Notably, this year marks the addition of the Olympic men’s single yacht ILCA7 class, adding a new challenge and sense of excitement to the event.
While sailors in the ILCA6 and ILCA7 classes have been specially invited by the Sailing Open committee, the J80 class will feature 30 open vacancies for enthusiastic sailors from among the general public, ensuring a diverse and competitive field of participants.
The competition is set to feature a lineup of top international sailors in the ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 classes, representing countries such as Spain, Portugal, Israel, Italy, Australia, Egypt, Malta, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Fiji.
Adding to the excitement, Xu Jingkun, the trailblazing Chinese skipper who recently completed the grueling Vendee Globe, a solo, non-stop around-the-world yacht race, will also be among the distinguished participants.
Adopting the theme “Shang Fantastic”, the 2025 Shanghai Sailing Open promises not only thrilling races but also a range of interactive activities and attractions that celebrate the beauty and charm of the Lin-gang Special Area.
