SAIC Motor and Huawei have reached a comprehensive cooperation agreement to develop intelligent automobiles in Shanghai, according to the Chinese automobile manufacturer.
Under this new agreement, the two parties will engage in strategic cooperation in areas such as product definition, manufacturing, supply chain management, and sales services in an effort to develop innovative, intelligent new energy vehicles.
The two companies have a long history of collaboration. For example, several brands under SAIC Motor, including Intelligent Mobility (IM), Rising Auto, and SAIC Audi, have made use of Huawei’s intelligent driving or intelligent cockpit technologies.
This partnership is expected to create synergy to enhance competitiveness and boost sales. It reflects a shift in China’s auto industry from competition between individual enterprises to a more collaborative ecosystem.
For SAIC Motor, working with Huawei is beneficial because Huawei’s strength in electric and intelligent technologies and SAIC Motor’s strength in manufacturing, supply chain management and sales services complement each other effectively.
Since the beginning of this year, SAIC Motor has been collaborating with various entities, including Chinese battery manufacturer Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL) and the Beijing Institute of Technology.
