The 2025 Volvo China Open is inviting the world’s top golfers to compete in its upcoming qualifying tournament.
With the tournament set to tee off at Shanghai’s Enhance Anting Golf Club, March 18-19, the 36-hole qualifying competition provides 12 places for male pros and amateurs alike to play in the 30th national championship. On offer are nine spots for mainland Chinese players, in addition to three spots for Chinese players not from the mainland.
The $2.5 million Volvo China Open, April 17-20 , is organized by the China Golf Association and co-sanctioned by the China Tour and the DP World Tour. The qualifying tournament is open to professionals and amateurs with a handicap index of 3.0 or less.
Registration and information for the Volvo China Open qualifying tournament can be found on the official website. Applications will be accepted on Feb 19 from 9 am (Beijing time) to Feb 22 at 5 pm. The tournament organizing committee will announce the list of players who have qualified for the tournament on Feb 25.

The maximum field for the qualifying tournament is 126 players, including 93 Chinese mainland players and 33 non-Chinese mainland players. Playing in a stroke play format, the field will be cut to the top players after the first round.
In the event of a tie, any open spots will be decided by a hole-by-hole play-off immediately following the 36 holes of the qualifying tournament.
Jin Zihao, a four-time winner on the China Tour as a rookie, won last year’s qualifying tournament at Hidden Grace Golf Club in Shenzhen, Guangdong province. The Beijing native was one of five Chinese mainland players to make the cut in the main tournament, also played at Hidden Grace, that was won by Adrian Otaegui of the United Arab Emirates.
The Emirati pro joined an esteemed group of past winners of the tournament, among them Paul Casey, Nicolas Colsaerts, Brandon Grace, Jeev Milkha Singh and China’s Li Haotong, one of six homegrown players to have won the national championship.

The Volvo China Open was established in 1995 and is the longest-running international professional golf tournament in the Chinese mainland. Following the protocol of such renowned national-level championships as The Open and the US Open, since 2005 the tournament has staged its qualifying competition. Its purpose is to provide a pathway for more professionals and amateurs without qualification, especially promising local Chinese players, to participate in the tournament and gain valuable experiences at the highest level.
Entry into the qualifying tournament is 1,500 yuan and includes a practice day on Monday, March 17 at Enhance Anting Golf Club. The 18-hole Robert Trent Jones Junior-designed layout is the host venue for both the qualifying tournament and the national championship.
Successful applicants are required to pay their entry fee within five days of the players list being announced. Those who have qualified will be confirmed by e-mail notification. Registration for the qualifying tournament is March 17 from 8 am to 3 pm.
