Shanghai saw inbound tourism surge during the Chinese New Year, with a year-on-year increase of 93 percent, according to a report released by Ctrip.com, one of China’s leading online travel services.
The expansion of the visa-free entry and transit policies contributed to the booming inbound tourism, with the top 10 source countries being South Korea, the United States, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, the United Kingdom, Thailand, Russia, Australia, and France.
The extended Spring Festival holiday—from seven to eight days—and the trend of taking longer breaks have contributed to the popularity of multi-segment travel, with many opting for two or more trips during the holiday.
