In 2024, a total of 90,167 couples registered for marriage in Shanghai, according to data released by the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Civil Affairs.
Additionally, 44,864 couples registered for divorce.
Of these, 133,650 registrations were from the Chinese mainland, including 89,070 marriages and 44,580 divorces.
The remaining 1,381 registrations involved foreigners, residents of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, or overseas Chinese, with 1,097 marriages and 284 divorces.
The average age of marriage registrants was 34.9 years, with men averaging 35.8 and women 34.
The average age for first marriage was 30.1 years old, with men at 30.8 and women at 29.5.
The average age of divorce registrants was 43.5 years, with men at 44.8 and women at 42.3.
