Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng called for the transformation of the city into a world-renowned tourism destination during an executive meeting of the municipal government on Jan 6.
The meeting highlighted the goal of positioning Shanghai as the top gateway to China for international tourists.
Shanghai should aim to make tourism a key reason for both domestic and international visitors to come and fall in love with the city, participants said at the meeting.
The meeting approved in principle the “Three-Year Action Plan for Promoting the High-Quality Development of Shanghai’s Tourism Industry (2025-27).”
In addition, the “Action Plan for the Development of Shanghai’s Brain-Computer Interface Future Industry (2025-30)” was approved in principle.
The meeting emphasized the need to establish a decision-making consultation system that comprises scientists, entrepreneurs, and investors to ensure the timely development of strategic projects in the BCI sector.
Efforts will also focus on driving product innovation in the BCI sector by leveraging Shanghai’s strong industrial infrastructure and rich clinical resources.
Furthermore, the meeting approved the “Special Plan for the Grand Zero Bay Science and Technology Innovation Zone (2025-35)” in principle, highlighting the area’s crucial role in Shanghai’s goal of becoming an international scientific and technological innovation hub.
Attendees of the meeting also called for accelerating the incubation and development of strategic emerging industries and future industries in Grand Zero Bay, promoting industry clustering and enhancing both the living and innovation environment.
According to attendees, the area should work to become a high-quality “innovation hub” where young talent can interact and foster innovation.
The meeting also underscored the importance of the 12345 government service hotline in addressing public concerns, with a focus on swift response to public complaints and enhancing communication between government and businesses.
