The Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism has unveiled the 2025 New Year celebration event list, featuring 86 festive activities.
The highlight is the 36-year tradition of ringing the bell at Longhua Temple, which will collaborate with the Gate M West Bund Dream Center this year.
Visitors will also have the chance to enjoy an artistic lantern festival at Yuyuan Garden from Jan 1 to Feb 12. This year’s theme is inspired by Shan Hai Jing or The Classic of Mountains and Seas, a major source of Chinese mythology that dates back over 2,000 years.
Anting Ancient Town will blend historical sites with folk activities, featuring drumming, bell striking atop towers, and intangible cultural heritage craft experiences. Panlong Tiandi, a Chinese-style commercial complex, will feature light shows and installments on the water.
Outdoor exercise is also an indispensable part of festivities. Sheshan National Tourist Resort will host an uphill trail running event on Jan 1, with participants able to explore markets and take photos with costumed characters along the way.
