A digital map is reshaping the way residents interact with their neighborhood in an area of 2.08 square kilometers in Shanghai, enhancing community life in what’s said to be unprecedented ways.

Back in 2023, the Caoyang subdistrict in Shanghai’s Putuo district unveiled the city’s first 15-minute neighborhood map, aimed at facilitating local community engagement.

Recently, this map has evolved into an intelligent version with dynamic data updates and seamless integration with interactive applications, taking community engagement to the next level.

The new digital map offers a plethora of services, empowering residents not only to physically explore the neighborhood but also to gain a comprehensive understanding of the neighborhood’s trail layout through an online interface.

One of the unique attractions of the area is the preservation of fallen leaves during the golden season of fall, creating a picturesque setting for residents and visitors.

The digital map not only highlights this distinctive feature but also provides insights into the neighborhood’s layout, enabling users to navigate the area with ease.

The genesis of the initiative lies in the feedback provided by community residents through the map’s dedicated section, allowing for continuous improvements and iterative upgrades based on valuable input.

Many of the suggestions have been integrated into the map’s latest features and optimizations. They include enhanced color displays, enlarged font sizes for improved readability and precise location markers for essential facilities such as public toilets and community canteens.

The enhancements serve as a direct response to the diverse needs of the community, enriching residents’ experiences and fostering a deeper sense of connection to their surroundings.

What’s more, the digital map is said to stand as a testament to the power of technology in enhancing community life and creating a more vibrant and engaging environment for all who call the Caoyang subdistrict home, said an official from the sub-district government.
