Chen encouraged Energy Foundation to enhance international experience-sharing and pursue practical cooperative projects in energy, transportation, green and low-carbon supply chains, and green finance support.

Zou highlighted Shanghai’s status as a crucial hub for the foundation to engage in international cooperation, adding that the foundation would serve as a bridge in tackling global challenges and advancing sustainable development.

Dec 4 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Osaka Mayor Hideyuki Yokoyama and President of Osaka City Council Takashi Takeshita.

Gong highlighted that since becoming friendship cities in 1974, Shanghai and Osaka have engaged in extensive cooperation across various sectors. He encouraged shared learning in urban governance to seek partnerships in trade, culture, and youth.

With the World Expo 2025 set to be held in Osaka, Yokoyama expressed his hope to work with Shanghai in the fields of financial technology and the health industry. He also emphasized the importance of information exchanges on shared concerns like aging populations.

Dec 6 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Shingo Ueno, president of Sumitomo Corporation.

Gong welcomed Sumitomo to increase its investment in Shanghai, set up more innovative projects, and allocate quality resources to strengthen cooperation with local enterprises. He expressed Shanghai’s commitment to enhancing communication with businesses and protecting the rights and interests of foreign investments.

Ueno conveyed his optimism about fostering practical cooperation with Shanghai enterprises and jointly expanding into overseas markets. He said that Sumitomo would continue to invest in China and enhance talent exchanges.

Dec 7 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Ajay Banga, president of World Bank Group.

Gong invited the World Bank to deepen collaboration with Shanghai’s financial institutions, expressing his hope that the collaboration would help the city better align with international rules and standards, furthering its development as a world-class financial center and providing strong support for the Chinese enterprises going global.

The World Bank has worked with Shanghai on numerous initiatives since 1985. Banga voiced his commitment to deepening this partnership, fostering technological progress in the city, and highlighting Chinese innovations on the global stage.
