Shanghai has unveiled its fourth batch of seniors-friendly restaurants, featuring 11 establishments from six well-known local catering brands in the city’s Huangpu district.

The restaurants, part of an initiative to offer preferential and diverse services to elderly residents, are owned by Yuyuan Inc. They include such notable names as Lyu Bo Lang — a Michelin Guide restaurant — Shanghai De Xing Restaurant and Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant.

Starting on Nov 18, older folks holding a special service card issued by the district can enjoy discounts of at least 15 percent at the newly added eateries, along with those already participating in the program.

To cater to the varying eating habits of seniors, some outlets have customized a variety of set menus.

De Xing Restaurant, an historic establishment founded in 1883 during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and renowned for its Shanghai-style cuisine, has three branches on the new list.

Two branches offer a 15-percent discount during lunch and dinner, while the third provides a 5 yuan discount for purchases topping 35 yuan ($4.83) – applicable to both dine-in and takeout orders.

The initiative aims to widen the catering options of seniors and make it easier for them to explore new dining experiences.

Yuyuan Inc said participating in the project not only diversified the dining offering for seniors, but also lowered the threshold for them to try out new things.
