A new version of the German-language musical Rebecca premiered worldwide on the stage of Shanghai Culture Square on Nov 5.
This new rendition, created by the original musical producer, Austria’s Vereinigte Bühnen Wien (United Stages Vienna), and the Danish company Lion Entertainment Aps, features condensed and refined choreography, stunning visuals, and exquisite costumes, bringing to life all the beloved songs from the play.
Rebecca has a history of over 80 years, from the 1938 novel by English writer Daphne du Maurier to the classic 1940s film directed by Alfred Hitchcock, and now to the musical theater adaptation co-written by recording artist and composer Sylvester Levy and musical theater lyricist and librettist Michelle Kuntzer.
Since 2014, Shanghai Culture Square has hosted classic musicals produced by VBW, such as Elisabeth and Mozart, along with musical star concerts, establishing a strong audience base for Austrian musicals in Shanghai and beyond.
