Experts from academia, media, and public relations gathered in Shanghai on Nov 3 for the third Forum on International Dissemination, just before the 7th China International Import Expo.
The event underscored how enhancing China’s international communication capabilities is essential to the country’s high-standard opening-up.
Co-organized by the China Public Relations Association and Tongji University, the forum explored the role of public relations in fostering international cooperation.
“Public relations are crucial in advancing opening-up efforts,” said Guo Weimin, president of the China Public Relations Association, who noted the forum’s platform supports exchange and collaboration among experts and scholars worldwide.
Chen Yiqun, director of the Information Office of Shanghai Municipality, highlighted the forum’s strategic timing on the eve of the expo. She said the event not only showcases China’s image but also promotes inclusive globalization, giving Shanghai an opportunity to connect with global audiences and shape international perceptions.
As China develops a new economic system focused on high-standard opening up, Gu Xueming, director of the Institute of Open and Innovative Development at Shenzhen University, emphasized the need to integrate culture with goods and expand cultural exchange, particularly as the economy shifts from manufacturing to services.
Lyu Peiming, executive vice-president of Tongji University, shared how the university is leveraging artificial intelligence in teaching and talent development to strengthen international communication.
A week-long photo exhibition showcasing China’s bridges accompanied the forum, highlighting bridge construction achievements across the country. The exhibition used photography to convey both the technical and aesthetic value of China’s infrastructure in an international context.
