Seven new ships given recognition in Shanghai

Seven ship models in three categories built by CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Co Ltd have received approval in principle (AiP) certificates from major classification societies on Oct 10 in Shanghai, indicating the Guangzhou-based shipbuilder continues to consolidate and expand its shipbuilding business.

“Three vessel categories, which are container ship, bulk carriers and liquefied gas carrier, have received the initial recognition from major international classification societies, allowing us to further consolidate our shipbuilding business in terms of models and categories,” said Li Dong, chief engineer of CSSC Huangpu Wenchong.

According to Li, Shanghai is on its way to building an international shipping center and has attracted all the world’s major shipping companies to operate business. Holding the ceremony in the city will help expand the company’s influence in the industry.

“We have currently formed a complete shipbuilding capability of constructing feeder container ships sized between 1,100 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) to 5,000 TEUs, bulk carriers of from 65,000 deadweight tons (DWT) to 85,000 DWT, and liquefied gas ships ranging from 5,000 cubic meters to 60,000 cubic meters, which allows us to provide our customers with tailor-made products as well as green and economic solutions for the global shipping and trading business,” said Luo Bing, general manager of CSSC Huangpu Wenchong.

According to Luo, the shipbuilding company has a history of 173 years and keeps making adaptations to the ever-changing market demand. This year, the company made a solid step in the new energy area by successfully developing 2,400 TEUs container ships dual-powered by methanol this year.
