Hubei handles nearly 25 mln railway passenger trips in Spring Festival travel rush

The total number of railway passenger trips in Hubei during the 40-day Spring Festival travel rush, also known as chunyun, reached 24.944 million, official data showed on Monday.

The figure marked a 7.9 percent increase over the same period in 2024, according to the China Railway Wuhan Bureau Group Co., Ltd.

Railway passenger volume reached 1.001 million on Feb. 4, a record high for a single day during the Spring Festival travel rush. The Wuhan Railway Station, the largest high-speed railway station in Hubei, handled 278,600 passengers on Feb. 5, setting a new record.

The travel rush, often referred to as the world’s largest annual human migration, highlights China’s vast mobility and economic activity. With a steadily recovering economy and rising demand for travel, this year’s chunyun saw a robust transportation network handling unprecedented passenger volumes.
